ZAMBIA RED CROSS SOCIETY JOINS THE WORLD IN COMMEMORATING WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2025

Zambia Red Cross Society Commemorates World Refugee Day – June 25, 2025
On June 25, 2025, the Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Refugee Day under the global theme, “Ubuntu in Action.” This year’s theme emphasized the spirit of humanity, compassion, and solidarity with refugees and displaced persons.
The commemoration was graced by the presence of the Honourable Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Mr. Jack Mwiimbu, who reaffirmed the government's commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of refugees in Zambia.

World Refugee Day, designated by the United Nations, is a global observance that honors the strength, courage, and resilience of refugees. It serves as a platform to raise awareness of the challenges they face and calls for increased global support and protection for those forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or disaster.

As part of its ongoing humanitarian mandate, ZRCS, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Office of the Commissioner for Refugees, continues to support the Restoring Family Links (RFL) Program in refugee settlements across the country.

The RFL program plays a critical role in reconnecting families separated by conflict, natural disasters, migration and other humanitarian crises. Currently, ZRCS provides RFL services in the following locations, Mantapala Refugee Settlement in Nchelenge District, Meheba Refugee Settlement in Solwezi District and Makeni Transit Centre, in Lusaka District

Through these efforts, ZRCS remains committed to promoting dignity, restoring hope, and strengthening humanitarian protection for refugees and asylum seekers in Zambia.
