Branch Development

With a nationwide footprint of 67 active branches, Zambia Red Cross Society delivers its humanitarian mission through a strong community-based structure. Each branch is led by a Branch Executive Committee (BEC) and supported by Volunteer Aid Units, which serve as the frontline teams for emergency response, health outreach, and local development.

Provincial Executive Committees (PECs) provide oversight and coordination at the regional level, ensuring effective service delivery across all provinces.

Our branch system also prioritizes youth engagement, offering platforms such as the Youth Impact Hub to nurture young leaders and amplify their role in humanitarian action. Through paid membership, individuals can formally join the movement, contribute to sustainable impact, and be part of a nationwide network of volunteers transforming lives at the grassroots.

Branch Development

Branch Development Department focuses on creating strong branches and strengthening their capacity and effectiveness to respond to emergencies. The department does this through the following:

Capacity building: The department works to enhance the skills, knowledge, and abilities of Zambia Red Cross Society’s volunteers by providing training programs, workshops, and resources. This helps them effectively respond to emergencies, provide essential services, and carry out community development projects.

Branch Strengthening: The department aims to strengthen the organizational governance structure, and operational systems of Zambia Red Cross Society. It provides guidance and support to ensure the branch functions efficiently, complies with relevant regulations and policies, while maintaining high standards of accountability and transparency.

Program/Project Implementation: The Branch Development Department collaborates with other departments within Zambia Red Cross Society and other external institutions to implement various programs and initiatives. These programs may include disaster preparedness, response and recovery, health and hygiene promotion, community-based first aid, COVID-19 sensitization and prevention, and other activities aimed at addressing the specific needs of vulnerable populations.

ZRCS has over 8000 volunteers, coming from over 60 branches across the country and this number continues to grow as we expand our initiatives and programs to reach diverse communities that may face any disasters across the country. We are determined to enhance disaster resilience and response capabilities throughout the country by actively engaging volunteers as we extend our reach and deliver assistance to those who need it the most.
