Who we are

Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) is a humanitarian organization established in 1966 through an Act of Parliament (Societies Act Cap 307). Mandated to support public authorities in humanitarian matters, ZRCS operates as an auxiliary to government institutions. We are part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, committed to saving lives, promoting dignity, and alleviating human suffering. The Republican President serves as the Patron of the Society.

ZRCS is governed by a 10-member elected Board led by the National President and Vice National President. Board members provide oversight across key thematic areas including Health, Disaster Management, Finance, Legal Affairs, Information, Social Welfare, Youth, and Training.

The Secretariat, headed by the Secretary General and CEO, ensures effective programme implementation and service delivery through departments such as Programmes, Finance and Accounts, Human Resource and Administration, Communications and Public Relations, Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (PMER), Health and Care, and Disaster Management.

With over 8,000 volunteers active in 67 branches across all 10 provinces, ZRCS maintains a strong community presence. Our work is guided by the Seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality.
